The New York Giants went out and addressed the need for a wide reciever in this years NFL. They picked up North Carolina WR Hakeem Nicks and (6’6″ beast) Cal Poly WR Ramses Barden. Both men will try to fill the huge void left by Plaxico Burress (Otherwise known as Cheddar Bob).

My thoughts on Nicks:

Nicks showed in college he has great hands and the ability to make big plays. The Giants need to be able to stretch the field and Nicks might be the answer to all the problems they had last year. This is a big kid with good speed and I see him doing big things for the G-Men for years to come.

My thoughts on Barden:

Barden is big dude and basically that is all the Giants fan seem to known about him right now. Once the season starts I think all the Giant fans are gonna be surprised at how good this kid is. I think he’s going to have a solid season and be the big target in the redzone that the Giants missed most of last season. After watching his youtube highlight video Bardem showed amazing hands and an amazing ability to go up and get the ball.

Here are my Best Bets for Week 4 of the NFL Season.

1. Minnesota Vikings over Tennesse Titans

The Vikings look prime to go on a run and I feel the Titans aren’t really that good of a 3-0 team. Gus Frerotte gives the Vikes a downfield threat and that will open up the run for Adrian Peterson to have a monster day. I’ll take the Vikings and I don’t think they even need the 3 points.

2. San Diego Chargers over Oakland Raiders

Raider Nation is going to be upset by my pick here but I got the Chargers winning this game easy. Lane Kiffin will be fired after the game and all chaos will break loose in Raider Nation. Nothing gets Al Davis more pissed off then losing to a division rival especially the Broncos or the Chargers. The Chargers will cover the 7.5 point spread with ease. Jamarcus Russell is gonna be pressured all day and McFadden isn’t going to be able to find any running room. Look for LT to have a monster day, for all your fantasy owners because he owns the Raiders. I see the Chargers winning this game by 14 plus points.

3. San Fransisco 49ers over New Orleans Saints

The 49ers are looking sharp lately and Mike Martz offense is looking the 99 Rams “Greatest Show on Turf”. Issac Bruce has been playing lights out it looks like this guy has found the fountain of youth or maybe its because he got out of the diaster area known as the St. Louis Rams. The Saints are missing several key players and I feel that is going to hurt them big time in this game. No Colston & No Shockey equals No Victory for the Saints. I got the 49ers winning this game. If they don’t win they will atleast cover the spread its gonna be a close game.

Now that Brett’s a New York Jet. How will he handle New York?

Brett Favre has played almost his entire career in Green Bay, Wisconsin and that’s nothing like being a star in New York. The New York the media is all over you covering your every move. Everything Brett Favre does or says will be known throughout the city, thats the way it is right now and the season has just begun. If you live in the New York area you know what Brett Favre eats for breakfast and lunch and dinner.

Well after week one the Jet fans are loving him. Brett lead the New York Jets to a victory over the Miami Dolphins. He used his Favre magic to launch a 4th down Hail Mary pass into the endzone and Jets wideout Stuckey hauled it in for a touchdown. I was watching the game and couldn’t believe what I just saw. Brett can still play and he still has that magic. He has made the Jets a relevant football team and a contender for the Super Bowl. Its going to be an interesting season.

Michael Strahan is the perfect fit for the Giants, but can they get him to come out of retirement?

Michael wants 8 to 10 million dollars and thats a small price to pay considerng the big whole the Giants have on the defensive line. The Giants are usually cheap and they don’t like to spend a lot of money unless they absolutely need to. I would consider this situation a need because Strahan’s leadership a lone will make the Giants a better defensive team.

Other Options:

Mathias Kiwanuka is going to move back to the defensive line looks to be the option right now. With Strahans return to the team questionable, Kiwanuka looks like the only answer to the Giants current problem. Kiwanuka is orginially a defensive linemen who has recently been trying to convert to linebacker. Kiwanuka was solid in his rookie year on the defensive line and I expect big things out of him this year. This is why we drafted the kid lets see what he can do. Oppurtunity doesn’t knock that often hopefully Kiwanuka can take advantage of this and have a monster season.

Jeremy Shockey is traded to the New Orleans Saints for a 2nd and 5th round pick.

So after all the crying Shockey finally gets his ticket out of New York. Shockey is a selfish player and I’m glad he’s gone. After the New York Giants make their magical run through the playoffs and win the Super Bowl, Shockey wants to leave. Some where a long the line something got planted in Shockey’s head that said “The Giants feel they are better without me, They won the Super Bowl without me.” So he acted on that and didn’t show up to hardly any of the Super Bowl celebration parties. Shockey didn’t go to the ring ceremony, victory parade, White House and whatever other victory banquets the team had to honor their historic season.

I feel Shockey was just jealous the team had all this success without him on the field. He was jealous he wasn’t winning the Super Bowl with the team. Shockey is a great player don’t get me wrong but he was wrong in this situation. He should of just enjoyed the run his team had and been there for all these celebration. Your actions speak louder then your words and Shockey sent the wrong message to the team, coaches and management. Shockey showed he was a bit jealous of the teams success and that shouldn’t of been the case. He should be happy for his teammates and not be just a ME guy.

With all that being said I feel the Giants got a solid deal for Shockey. They were able to get a 2nd and 5th round pick which will be very valuable picks to the team in next years NFL draft. The Giants can possibly use those picks as a negotiation tool and trade up in the draft or just make the picks. The only problem I have is that if they were going to do the deal, why didn’t they pull the trigger at this years draft. Then they would of had an extra 2 picks and that would of helped this years team. Other then that one minor complaint I think it was a great deal for both teams. If Shockey would of stayed around he would of been a major distraction from the Team and they would of had to answer silly questions about him all season long.

Will the Giants be alright without Shockey?

Eli Manning ran the offense fine without Shockey during their championship run and I feel he will do perfectly fine without Shockey the rest of his career. Now that all the major personalities are gone in New York (Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, Michael Strahan) it is now truly Eli Mannings Team and he is going to handle it perfectly.

Boss has been a decent replacement for Shockey and played well on the Giants stretch run to the Super Bowl. Boss isn’t going to be that super star like Shockey but we don’t need him to be. He just needs to be Boss and the Giants will have a perfectly fine tight end.

Good bye to Shockey

I was at the freezing cold Giants vs Redskin game where Shockey broke his leg and a lot of Giants fans thought the season was over that night. Who would of thought they would of ended up Super Bowl Champions? Who would of thought that it would of been the last time Shockey would wear a Giants uniform? Its just crazy how things work out. I wish Shockey luck in the future but I hope the Giants kick his ass every time we play him for the rest of his career.

The Giants may not need Shockey but having him as a passing option is only going to help. Eli Manning needs as many targets has he can to keep this offense improving and staying a top the competitive NFC East. The NFC East looks to be the toughest division in the NFL once again and having a hard nosed player like Shockey is only going to enhance their chances of defending there title.

Whoever is saying “The Giants won the Super Bowl without Shockey and they are better off without him” is crazy. Yes the Giants won the Super Bowl without him but how are they better off without one of the top tight ends in the NFL. They are not a better team minus Jeremey Shockey thats just crazy talk. Once Shockey gets back in the starting line up next year and catches a couple passes everyone will forget about all the drama circulating in the off season. The Giants are a great team without Shockey and a better team with him.
