Elite XC hosted the first ever network broadcast mixed martial arts event. It wasn’t a great event but it wasn’t a terrible one either. Elite XC did a good job considering the talent pool of MMA fighters they have at their disposal. Of course it wouldn’t be a Gary Shaw event if there wasn’t a little controversy.

The night started off with two great knockouts. Brett Rogers destroyed Jon Murhpy in a 1 minute. Rogers has showcased his power in the Elite XC, recording 3 knockouts in as many fights. Then “New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni puts on a dance show all the way to the cage only to be knocked out by Joey Villasenor in a minute. Baroni’s entrance was longer then the actual fight. So the night started off with two quick fights which resulted in an hour worth of commercials. You can’t really complain its free fights.

Elite XC best fight of the night Scott Smith vs Robbie Lawler ended on an accidental eye poke which probably should of continued, instead it ended in a No Contest. Lawler and Smith were putting on a fight of the year caliber fight. Too bad the Doctor had to put an end to the bout. It was just a poke in the eye. That wasn’t the Elite XC’s fault it.

Then the main event of the night ended in a little bit of controversy. Kimbo Slice was stuck on the fence getting hit for the entire last minute of the 2nd round. The referee later said the punches weren’t doing any damage to Kimbo. If a fighter isnt’ defending himself for say a minute then the fight should be stopped, thats just my opinion. Then Kimbo clocks Thompson in his cauliflower ear and makes his ear explode. Thompson was wobbled a little bit and the referee jumped in right away and stopped the fight. If you are going let Kimbo get hit with 50 unanswered strikes at least give Thompson a chance to try and recover. Even though Elite XC saved their meal ticket Kimbo Slice from losing his first pro bout, it was a good night of fights.
